  2. air, or of heat, moving in a definite 
  3. direction. Ocean currents are fast-flowing
  4. currents of seawater generated by the wind
  5. or by variations in water density between
  6. two areas. They are partly responsible for
  7. transferring heat from the equator to the 
  8. poles and thereby evening out the global heat
  9. imbalance.
